Physician Partners of America adds noted spine surgeon & more — 5 ASC company key notes

Here are five updates on ASC management companies from the past week.

Tampa, Fla.-based Laser Spine Institute's James St. Louis, DO, joined Physician Partners of America to practice out of two Tampa-based locations. Physician Partners of America also recently named Tracie Lawson president and COO.

Envision Healthcare gained the most out of all the stocks that make up the S&P 500 on Dec. 27, when it rose 2.4 percent.

Tenet Healthcare aims to improve financial performance and shareholder value through several changes, including the expansion of its cost reduction program and potentially selling Conifer, its healthcare business services subsidiary. Concerning 2018, the company increased its cost reduction initiative by $100 million, and expects to achieve $250 million of annualized run-rate savings by the end of next year, including around $125 million during the 2018 calendar year.

Tenet Healthcare reported net losses of $366 million in its preliminary third quarter fiscal year 2017 results. Tenet's ambulatory caseload decreased 2.4 percent, while revenue per case increased 3.4 percent year-over-year.

According to recent filings, institutional investors are reducing their positions in Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare in droves. Since the second quarter of fiscal year 2017, 249 investors have sold or reduced their equity in HCA, while only 197 started new or increased their positions in HCA.
