Physician group seeks to purchase troubled Ohio hospital: 4 things to know

A group of Massillon, Ohio-based Affinity Medical Center physicians aims to purchase the troubled hospital from Quorum Health, according to Canton Rep.

Here are four things to know:

1. At least seven physicians are putting together a plan to purchase Affinity Medical Center, a hospital that current owner Quorum Health plans to close on Feb. 4.

2. In the report, Nash Gabrail, MD, one of the physicians hoping to purchase the hospital, said the group could grow to 80 or 90 physicians and/or business leaders as investors.

3. The hospital has reported declining revenues as well as increased operational costs. At a city council meeting, the hospital workers also reported billing and coding errors that may contribute to the hospital's financial situation.

4. Dr. Gabrail didn't comment on a fair price of the hospital, and the transaction depends on achieving enough investors and Quorum's willingness to sell.
