Pennsylvania's Erie Shriners to Convert to ASC

Erie (Pa.) Shriners Hospital for Children is planning to move inpatient surgeries to other hospitals and convert to an ambulatory surgery center, according to an Erie Times-News report.

The hospital announced its plans in Nov. 2009 and is still working to realize the transition. Erie Shriners would move all inpatient surgeries to UPMC Hamot, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Shriners Hospital for Children – Philadelphia.

The hospital itself would become an ASC, and its inpatient area would convert into pediatric specialty clinics. Erie Shriners would still oversee outpatient surgeries and clinics, rehab and its motion-analysis lab.
