The North Carolina attorney general's office is asking the state health department to deny HCA Healthcare's certificate-of-need application to add 26 acute care beds to its Asheville-based Mission Hospital.

An outpatient surgery facility in Gardendale, Ala., has sold for $6.81 million, according to a July 25 report from the Birmingham Business Journal. 

ASC management services provider AmSurg has acquired ownership interest in Salem, Ore.-based River Road Surgery Center. 

Investment firm Värde Partners and medical office real estate investment firm Unity Medical Properties have partnered to acquire a surgery center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., for $14.5 million, according to a July 29 report from The Real Deal.

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare saw outpatient surgery volume decline for the second consecutive quarter because of lower Medicaid and self-pay volumes, executives explained in a July 23 earnings call transcribed by Seeking Alpha.

ASCs are a component of St. Louis-based Ascension plans for growth amid a $3 billion operating loss in fiscal 2023. 

Optum, the country's largest employer of physicians and parent company of ASC chain SCA Health, has revealed plans to shutter several clinics so far in 2024. 

Burlington-based University of Vermont Medical Center received approval to purchase a medical campus owned by Covenant Health in Colchester for $17.3 million, VermontBiz reported July 26.
