HCA Healthcare has expanded its network of 153 ASCs by acquiring interest in Performance Health Surgery Center in Fort Myers (Fla.) along with five physician partners. 

Deerfield Ill.-based SCA Health, formerly Surgical Care Affiliates, is one of the largest ASC chains in the country and operates under parent company Optum.

While healthcare mergers and acquisitions are down this year compared to 2021, the ASC sector continues to grow, according to an Aug. 14 article in JDSupra from the law firm Bass, Berry & Sims. 

The property housing Post Falls, Idaho-based Northwest Specialty Hospital was acquired for $67.5 million.

United Surgical Partners International, Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare's surgery center business, is the largest ASC chain in the country, with 410 surgery centers and 24 surgical hospitals in 34 states.

United Surgical Partners International, Surgery Partners and SCA Health are three of the biggest ASC chains, and are looking to different avenues for growth in the coming years. 

A physician group sold the property housing the Naperville, Ill.-based Suburban Gastroenterology and Midwest Endoscopy Center for $15 million, the Chicago Business Journal reported Aug. 15.

Optum, parent company of ASC company SCA Health, is having a huge year in acquisitions, spending almost $8 billion.
