Optum Q3 revenue up 13.3% to $28.8B: 5 key notes

Optum reported a revenue and earnings increase for the third quarter, which ended on Sept. 30.

Five things to know:

1. Optum reported revenue at $28.8 billion, up 13.3 percent from $25.4 billion over the same period last year. The operating margin was 8.2 percent at the end of the third quarter.

2. OptumHealth revenue jumped 34.4 percent during the third quarter to $8.1 billion, due to the expansion of its behavioral health services and growth across the business.

3. OptumHealth served around 95 million people at the quarter’s end and revenue per consumer was up 30 percent year-over-year, driven by value-based arrangement and expanded local care options.

4. OptumRx third quarter revenue was up 5.8 percent year-over-year to $18.5 billion, fulfilling 325 million adjusted scripts during the quarter.

5. OptumInsights revenue was up 16.1 percent to $2.6 billion.
