North Carolina legislators to reform CON law in 2015

Carrie Pallardy -

North Carolina is known for its stringent certificate of need law, but that may change in the new year.

North Carolina legislators plan to initiate CON law reform in 2015, according to a Forbes report. The reform is aimed at increasing market competition to help reduce the cost of care.

The move towards reform faces significant opposition from groups like the North Carolina Hospital Association, but progress has been made in the past.

In 2013, state policymakers worked to relax regulations overseeing the development of single-specialty ambulatory surgery centers. But, reform initiatives have the potential to further relax these regulations.
