New Kansas Surgery Center in Wichita Breaks Ground

A new outpatient surgery center in Wichita, Kan., has broken ground, according to a Wichita Eagle report.

The 29,000-square-foot surgery center is a new facility for Surgicare of Wichita. It will have eight operating rooms and two procedure rooms, and will replace a smaller Surgicare of Wichita facility.

The new facility is a project between Surgicare of Wichita, Wesley Medical Center and HCA. HCA owns Wesley Medical Center and a controlling interest in Surgicare of Wichita.

Surgicare of Wichita was established in 1974 as the Minor Surgery Center of Wichita and was the second freestanding ASC in the United States, according to its website.

The new facility is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2012.
