Liver transplant outpatient clinic opening in Walnut Creek — 5 things to know

John Muir Health and UCSF Medical Center, nationally renowned for its superior programs, worked together to open a new liver transplant outpatient clinic in the East Bay Region, specifically located in Walnut Creek.

Here are five facts about the clinic:

1. The UCSF Medical Center will administer clinical services to those patients awaiting transplants or who recently received transplants including blood testing and monitoring.

2. Francis Yao, MD, a UCSF transplant hepatologist, provided services for patients as recently as last month.

3. UCSF performs 140 to 160 transplants each year.

4. As of February 2014, more than 3,000 liver transplants were performed by UCSF surgeons.

5. UCSF is placed among the top five liver transplant programs nationally.
