North Shore-LIJ announced its intention to eliminate a large number of hospital beds and convert the facility to an ASC over the summer. The announcement was met with widespread dissent from the community.

Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) introduced the bill last month and Senator Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) introduced the bill to the senate last week.

The state health department is currently reviewing North Shore-LIJ’s application to decertify inpatient psychiatric services and 18 beds.
