Kevin O'Leary: 3 key attributes to nail a business pitch

As an investor on ABC's Shark Tank, Kevin O'Leary has seen it all. Great ideas are a dime a dozen but it's execution skills that really drive a pitch home to potential investors.

Speaking at the Becker's ASC 26th Annual Meeting, Mr. O'Leary laid out three key attributes to deliver a successful pitch.

1. Articulate your pitch. "You have to be able to articulate the opportunity in 90 seconds or less," Mr. O'Leary said. A business pitch needs to be concise and to the point or no investor is going to want to take their wallet out.

2. Know the steps to make your idea a reality. Before you pitch your idea, you need to be able to explain the steps you will take to transform your idea into a reality. "You have to tie the idea to your execution skills so the investor becomes interested."

3. Know your numbers. "How big is the market, how fast is it growing, what are the gross margins? You have to be able to answer those questions as they are just fired at you," Mr. O'Leary said. Know the business model and be able to explain it. "If you get these right, the probability of getting finance goes up geometrically."
