HSS to open New York City outpatient center in December — 5 details

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery plans to open a 14,000-square-foot outpatient center this month in New York City's Brooklyn borough.

Five things to know:

1. The center will open in the same building as the Brooklyn Nets HSS Training Center on a 6 million-square-foot manufacturing and innovation campus called Industry City. The Brooklyn Nets Training Center opened in 2016, and HSS has cared for the NBA team since 2004.

2. HSS Brooklyn's nonoperative musculoskeletal care and services will include imaging capabilities and a physical therapy and sports performance program. The sports performance service is expected to enable quick patient access and direct booking.

3. Rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons and primary care sports medicine physicians will practice out of HSS Brooklyn. Physical therapists at the facility will treat conditions related to the spine, knee and hip joints, as well as sports-related injuries.

4. Rehabilitation space at HSS Brooklyn will feature antigravity treadmills, blood-flow restriction training, laser therapy and motion-capture technology.

5. In 2019-20, HSS was ranked the country's No. 1 hospital for orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report for the 10th consecutive year.
