Healthcare, media drive record-breaking $2.5T in mergers so far in 2018 — 13 statistics

Mergers announced in the first half of the year were valued at more than $2.5 trillion combined, on track to set the largest yearly total on record, The New York Times reports.

The value of acquisitions announced so far this year was up 61 percent year over year. Driven by number of big deals in media and healthcare — such as Amazon's PillPack acquisition and Cigna's $52 billion bid for Express Scripts — mergers are on pace to surpass $5 trillion this year.
