Health system standoff: Kaleida Health ASC project approved after revote

Despite Catholic Health’s objections, a revote has resulted in the approval of Kaleida Health’s Orchard Park, N.Y., surgery center project, according to report by The Buffalo News. Both health systems are based in Buffalo, N.Y.

Kaleida Health is working with a group of physicians to open the $2.66 million, 16,082-square-foot Southtowns Ambulatory Surgery Center. The center is expected to hose 4,560 procedures in its first year.

The New York State Health Department’s Public Health and Health Planning Council voted 18 to 0 to allow the project to move forward.

Orthopedic surgeon Brian McGrath, MD, is the center’s physician leader.
