HCA revenues continue to soar, hit $11.45B in Q3 — 8 insights

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare increased third quarter 2018 revenues 7.1 percent to $11.45 billion, while continuing to increase its outpatient surgery load.

Here are six things to know:

1. HCA's same-facility outpatient surgeries increased 4.2 percent year over year. The company also expanded its outpatient portfolio, addingthree freestanding outpatient surgery centers. Concerning total admissions, same facility equivalent admissions increased 3.4 percent, while same facility admissions increased 3.1 percent. HCA's same-facility inpatient surgeries increased 1.6 percent.

2. Adjusted EBITDA increased from about $1.78 billion to $2.10 billion year over year.

3. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma impacted several HCA facilities, creating $140 million in losses.

4. Net income attributable to HCA Healthcare totaled $759 million, while cash flow from operations totaled $1.72 billion.

5. For the first three quarters, HCA reported $34.4 billion in revenue and $2.72 billion in net income. The company has $578 million in cash and cash equivalents, $33.11 billion in debt and $38.04 billion in total assets.

6. HCA also recognized a tax benefit of $316 million through Sept. 30.

7. As of Sept. 30, HCA had 179 hospitals, 122 freestanding outpatient facilities and 47,060 beds.

8. The company expects revenues between $46 billion and $47 billion and adjusted EBITDA between $8.7 billion and $8.9 billion for fiscal year 2018.
