Here are four things to know:

1. Both practices have served the Phoenix metropolitan area for more than 30 years and have more than 40 locations in Arizona and New Mexico.

2. The practices offer treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disorders and vision correction and oculoplastics. The two were formerly friendly competitors, but now are joining together under the H.I.G. umbrella and will collaborate in the future.

3. Post-H.I.G. investment, BDP’s CEO Mark Rosenberg will lead the group’s day-to-day operations while founder of Southwestern Eye Institute Lothaire Bluth, MD, will be chairman of the board.

4. H.I.G. is a private equity firm with $21 billion of equity capital under management. “We plan to leverage the companies’ unique scale and best practices to continue to provide excellent clinical care, which is the foundation for sustained growth in Arizona and throughout the Southwest.”

“With the evolving healthcare landscape, it is important that independent providers work together to share resources and best practices,” said Dr. Bluth. “We are excited to partner with H.I.G. and BDP to continue to deliver great patient care and career opportunities for all of our employees.”
