Here are five key points:
1. Earlier this year, Indian River Medical Center’s two governing boards agreed to seek a partnership to invest nearly $185 million in the hospital over several years.
2. With the funds, the hospital aims to build a new ASC as well as make updates to its power plant, patient rooms and information technology.
3. In the 2017 fiscal year, Indian River Medical Center expects to lose $1.6 million on operations. The year prior, the hospital had $2.4 million in operating losses.
4. The seven nonprofit systems that have expressed interest include:

• Weston, Fla.-based Cleveland Clinic Health System
• Rockledge, Fla.-based Health First
• Stuart, Fla.-based Martin Health System
• Orlando (Fla.) Health
• Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health
• University of Florida Health in Gainesville,
5. The following five investor-owned systems also have expressed interest in a partnership:
• Duke LifePoint Healthcare in Brentwood, Tenn.
• HCA Healthcare in Nashville, Tenn.
• RCCH HealthCare Partners in Brentwood, Tenn.
• Steward Health Care System in Boston
• Pennsylvania-based Universal Health Services
