Driscoll Children’s Hospital receives $1M gift for medical pavilion — 4 insights

Corpus Christi, Texas-based Driscoll Children’s Hospital received a $1 million gift from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation after the hospital raised more than $16 million from the local community, the Caller Times reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. The Mabee Foundation challenged the hospital to raise $15 million towards its $100 million goal for the expansion. If successful, the foundation vowed to donate $1 million towards the project.

2. The proposed pavilion will modernize the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit and create a new outpatient surgery center.

3. The surgery center will feature two operating room suites.

4. The first phase of the pavilion is expected to open in 2020.
