Orthopedic surgeon Kurtis Biggs, MD, discussed how the changing healthcare landscape spurred his decision to open Seaside Surgery Center in Naples, Fla., according to Gulfshore Life.

Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Biggs stresses outpatient joint replacement surgery is not for all patients. Patients need a strong support system at home or need aides to help with recovery.

2. Seaside Surgery Center is the first same-day joint replacement center in Naples.

3. The center offers patients a low-stress procedure, an option that hospitals can’t always offer.

4. Dr. Biggs is also the founder of The Joint Replacement Institute in Southwest Florida.

5. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at Massillon, Ohio-based Doctors Hospital Stark County, he underwent his total joint fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
