The sale of the surgery center is being made in an effort to placate the Federal Trade Commission, which is concerned over the merger of the South Coast’s largest physician practice and areas only inpatient hospital, according to the report. The FTC hopes to maintain or increase the level of competition in the area.

Cottage Health System could retain ownership of the facility that houses the surgery center, but would sell the surgery center business.
