When the concept of the surgery center was unveiled in September, hospital officials said groundbreaking was likely to occur in early spring of this year. Clint Matthew, president and CEO, now says the groundbreaking will occur in summer 2013.
The surgery center will house 24 surgical suites, six of which will be hybrid surgical areas for invasive and open-body procedures as well as less-invasive procedures. The new surgical suites will accommodate robotic and laser surgeries and encompass as much as 900 square feet.
Design of the new facility has not been affected by Reading Hospital’s recently announced purchase of the Surgical Institute of Reading, a 15-bed hospital and surgical center in Spring Township, Pa.
