CON reform legislation introduced in South Carolina

Representative Murrell Smith (R-Sumter) has introduced legislation that would reform the certificate of need program in South Carolina, according to a Heartland report.

The new bill would create a number of CON exemptions, including the addition of hospital beds and expansion of existing services, according to the report.

Governor Nikki Haley (R) vetoed the funds for the state’s CON program, but the state’s Supreme Court ruled that the program would need to continue.
