Grand Junction, Colo.-based Retina Center of Western Colorado closed Oct. 30 after nearly 30 years, leaving Colorado’s Western Slope with one retina specialist and no comprehensive retina surgery capacity, The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported Nov. 5.
Two organizations have announced new retina clinics in Grand Junction to fill the gap. Front Range Retina, an independent, physician-owned practice founded in 2021 by Steven Christiansen, opened its fourth location Nov. 6. It will initially operate Fridays and Saturdays, offering injections, laser treatment and retinal imaging, and plans to add days and vitreoretinal surgery as it hires a second retina surgeon. The practice also has offices in Littleton, Colorado Springs and Castle Rock.
Community Hospital plans to open the Grand Valley Retina and Eye Center in January 2027 with C. Kiersten Pollard, MD, one of the closed practice’s two providers. Former patients will be able to continue care with Dr. Pollard starting as soon as Jan. 4.
