Children's Hospital of Philadelphia opens Brandywine Valley Specialty Care and ASC: 5 things to know

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Glen Mills, Pa., opened the Brandywine Valley Specialty Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Here are five things to know about the new ASC:

1. The 44,000-square-foot building includes more than 20 medical and surgical specialties. The ASC is within the building so children can have surgery closer to home.

2. The building has two floors accommodating several specialties, including cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology and orthopedics.

3. The facility has rehabilitation services and gyms for physical therapy and occupational therapy.

4. The ASC will serve all ages of children. CHOP's pediatric surgeons and board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists will staff the ASC along with pediatric nurses that have training in operating rooms or intensive care units.

5. The ASC will include ophthalmology, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, general surgery and urology.

"By bringing together all of these services in a new state-of-the-art facility, we are able to provide an optimal patient family experience," said Amy Lambert, senior vice president of the CHOP Care Network. "This new facility will allow us to offer comprehensive seamless care for patients who often see multiple specialists and require ancillary services and diagnostic tests."
