Athens Surgery Center moves forward: 5 things to know

The Athens (Ala.) Planning Commission approved preliminary plans for the Athens-Limestone Hospital to construct a surgery center, DecaturDaily.com reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. The surgery center will be 77,000 square feet, have six operating rooms and cost an approximate $30 million.

2. It would also include a medical office building with physician offices.

3. Athens City Planner Mac Martin said the center would better meet the needs of the community.

4. The hospital has a certificate of need to build the facility and filed a completed construction contract.

5. Hospital officials are readying a site plan for the plan commission to consider at its Nov. 15 meeting.
