ASC transactions in 2018 — 3 insights

The ASC market experienced widespread consolidation last year, reflecting a larger trend shaping the healthcare landscape, according to VMG Health.

Three insights on transactions in the ASC space in 2018:

1. In January, a joint venture between Toronto, Canada-based Medical Facilities Corp. and Leawood, Kan.-based NueHealth acquired seven ASCs from Brentwood, Tenn.-based Meridian Surgical Partners for $46.5 million. The centers had a combined net revenue of about $35.6 million.

2. Throughout the year, private equity firms became increasingly involved in gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and urology practices. By October, eight new firms entered the ophthalmology space, according to PhysiciansFirst Healthcare Partners.

3. In October, KKR completed its $9.9 billion acquisition of Nashville, Tenn.-based Envision Healthcare.
