Adventist HealthCare expanding outpatient presence with $404M hospital — 5 insights

Gaithersburg, MD-based Adventist HealthCare will open its Silver Spring (Md.) Hospital, improving the health system’s inpatient and outpatient capabilities, the Washington Business Journal reports.

What you should know:

1. The $404 million hospital will replace Adventist’s Takoma Park, Md., location.

2. The Takoma Park location will be converted into an urgent care center with physician offices.

3. The new hospital includes 170,000-square-feet for physician offices and outpatient services.

4. The new hospital is 472,000 square feet. It features 180-beds, including 28 intensive care unit beds, 16 intermediate care negative pressure beds, 22 maternity beds, eight observation beds and an emergency department.

5. Adventist President Erik Wangsness said to the Washington Business Journal in August 2018, “From a standpoint of outpatient services, we are constrained, which impacts our patients, our physicians. So the larger, expanded campus is going to be a good thing.”
