5 ASCs submit CON applications to NC Department of Health and Human Services

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services received three certificate-of-need applications from New Hanover County and two applications from Brunswick County for ASCs, according to WECT 6 News.

In New Hanover County, the following three surgery centers submitted CONs:

Wilmington (N.C.) Surgery Center submitted plans to add three operating rooms and one procedure current to existing ASC. Wilmington Surgery Center expects to complete the $5.6 million additions by January 2020.

Cape Fear Surgical Center (Fayetteville, N.C.) proposed building a new ASC. The surgery center would build three operating rooms, relocate three operating rooms from New Hanover (N.C.) Medical Center and relocate three existing endoscopy room from Wilmington Health. In total, the $28.9 million surgery center is expected to be completed by July 2018.

Surgery Center of Wilmington submitted plans to develop a new ASC with three operating rooms and one procedure room. Surgery Center Wilmington anticipates completing the $9.6 million project by January 2019.

The Brunswick County CON proposals include:

Brunswick Surgery Center (Leland, N.C.) submitted a CON proposing building a new ASC equipped with one operating room and two procedure rooms. The project, estimated to cost $4.2 million, would be completed in January 2019.

Novant Health Brunswick Outpatient Surgery (Leland) proposes relocating an operating room from Bolivia, N.C.-based Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center and adding one new procedure room to a new ASC in Leland. The $14.1 million project is expected to be completed in January 2019.

For the New Hanover County proposals, there will be a public hearing on Jan. 23, 2017, and a public hearing on Jan. 20, 2017, for the Brunswick County proposals.
