4 optometry, ophthalmology providers merging to form $10M facility: 4 insights

Four Bloomington-Normal, Ill., eye care providers are merging to form a new $10 facility, The Pantagraph reports.

Here are four things to know.

1. All optometrists and ophthalmologists at Eye Surgical Associates, McLean County Eye Center, Central Illinois Eye Care and Eyecare Associates will continue at the as-of-yet unnamed merged practice, which will employ about 90 people.

2. Ground will be broken on the 27,000-square-foot structure this year, and the merging practices expect to be in by August 2019.

3. Bloomington-based eyewear boutique Specs Around Town, while not part of the merger, will join the practices at the new facility.

4. According to co-owner of McLean County Eye Center David Landess, OD, there is a healthcare industry trend to move to a fully integrated approach. The new facility will provide general eye care, surgical care and eyewear at a single location.
