Three physician practices closed their doors this week — one after 45 years, one after 20 and one amid federal fraud charges against its owner.
Here are the three closures:
1. Physician’s Surgery Center of Knoxville (Tenn.) announced plans to shutter after 45 years of business. The physician-owned ASC, accredited by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, had 5 operating rooms and offered surgeries including colon and rectal, ENT, general, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, pain, plastic, podiatry and urology.
2. Satellite Med, a primary care practice in the Cookeville, Tenn., area, permanently closed after 20 years of operation, with owner James Cates, MD, citing a decade of declining reimbursements and insurance company interference in clinical decision-making as the primary drivers.
3. A Yuma, Ariz., physician’s clinic has closed after Ifran Fazil, MD, was arrested and charged with four felonies, including defrauding Arizona’s Medicaid program, money laundering and possessing dangerous drugs.
