3 physician practice closures in 1 month

Three physician practices announced closures in June, amid financial and staffing pressures squeezing independent practices.

The list spans a single-specialty urology group losing its physicians, a national payer-owned primary care chain trimming its footprint and a regional health system shuttering both an ASC and its affiliated orthopedic group as part of a broader restructuring.

Here are the three physician practices:

1. The Urology Group – Central Indiana permanently closed June 30, citing the departure of physicians that left the practice with only one full-time urologist. The practice’s sole remaining physician, Robert Williams, MD, will join Urology of Indiana in Fishers on September 1, following a two-month break.

2. Optum closed a primary care practice in Zionsville, Ind., at the end of June 26. The company has also closed a number of other practices in 2026, including offices in Franklin, Ind., Rock Hill, N.Y., and Portland, Ore.

3. Ogdensburg, N.Y.-based North Star Health Alliance shared plans June 24 to close its North Country Orthopaedic Ambulatory Surgery Center and its North Country Orthopaedic Group, both in Watertown, N.Y., in the next 30 to 90 days. The closures are part of North Star’s ongoing restructuring and operational stabilization efforts, and affect orthopedic, endocrinology and physical therapy services.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
