Oswego, Ill.-based Kendall Pointe Surgery Center has completed a more than $3.5 million expansion that adds a fourth operating room and capacity for more than 1,000 additional orthopedic procedures annually, according to an Oct. 19 news release shared with Becker’s.
The 11,000-square-foot renovation is the largest in the physician-owned center’s history. It follows a period in which surgical volume doubled from the previous five-year average. The center, which is managed by NueHealth, closed for construction June 10 and resumed cases Sept. 1. Kendall Pointe’s revenue grew 35% from 2024 to 2025, and the center projects 60% growth in 2027, its first full year in the expanded facility.
“The number of physician owners has grown in the last couple of years, and that was one of the reasons for the expansion,” Scott Sporer, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and chair of the Kendall Pointe board, told Becker’s. “We do have capacity there still, but we were having days when several surgeons would want to be there the same day, and it was hard with just three rooms.”
Daniel Tasset, founder, CEO and executive chairman of NueHealth, told Becker’s that Illinois’ CON law meant the company “had to buy an existing facility, and then we had to retrofit it and redesign it in a way so that it could be ready to take the downside risk on an episodic bundle of total joint replacement.”
NueHealth hopes to build that model into a contract with HCSC, the parent company of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, Mr. Tasset said.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
