Here are two hospital closures that Becker’s has reported on since July 1:

1. St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital (St. Louis)

St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital officially closed its doors on August 1 due to persistently low patient volumes and mounting financial pressures. In a statement, the hospital cited these challenges as making continued operation as an acute care facility unsustainable. However, St. Luke’s Medical Group will maintain operations at its medical office buildings located on the Des Peres campus, ensuring ongoing outpatient care access for the community.

2. Javon Bea Hospital – Rockton (Rockford, Ill.)

Javon Bea Hospital – Rockton, part of Mercyhealth, ceased operations on July 1 after the health system filed a “temporary suspension of services” with the state, a Mercyhealth spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. The shutdown of the hospital building was reported to have taken effect at 6 a.m., according to NBC affiliate WREX.com Despite the hospital’s closure, the adjacent physician clinic on the campus remains open and operational.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
