Here are 17 hospital deals and deal updates Becker’s has reported on in the past month.
1. Kansas City, Kan.-based The University of Kansas Health System signed a definitive agreement to acquire full ownership of St. Francis Campus and its affiliated care sites in Topeka from Brentwood, Tenn.-based Ardent Health.
2. Bloomington, Minn.-based HealthPartners and Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health plan to combine to form a 22-hospital nonprofit health system with more than 135 clinics and 6,000 clinicians.
3. The Wake County (N.C.) board of commissioners voted 5-2 on Sept. 21 to approve the proposed combination of Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Health & Hospitals and Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health. The proposed merger now moves to a regulatory review process, but has drawn scrutiny from both Wake County leaders and state officials over competition, governance and healthcare costs.
4. Joplin, Mo.-based Freeman Health System and Fort Scott, Kan.-based Kansas Renewal Institute signed a nonbinding letter of intent to explore the future ownership and operation of Freeman Fort Scott Hospital.
5. The proposal for New York City-based Maimonides Health to join NYC Health + Hospitals’ received unanimous approval from the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council Sept. 17.
6. Flint, Mich.-based Insight Health Systems is set to take over shuttered Chicago-based Weiss Memorial Hospital and Oak Park, Ill.-based West Suburban Medical Center.
7. Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health is now majority owner of Idaho Falls Community Hospital and Mountain View Hospital, both in Idaho Falls, Idaho, after acquiring Surgery Partners’ ownership stake in the facilities.
8. Lebanon, Ind.-based Witham Health Services signed an affiliation agreement Sept. 16 with Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Parkview Health to join the system, according to a news release.
9. Franklin, Tenn.-based Williamson Health is moving forward with its proposed $700 million sale to St. Louis-based Ascension after the Williamson County Board of Commissioners approved a letter of intent with Ascension Saint Thomas.
10. Marshall, Mo.-based John Fitzgibbon Memorial Hospital transitioned to new ownership and management following approval of the transaction by a U.S. bankruptcy court. Chesterfield, Mo.-based American Medical Administrators confirmed Sept. 9 that it has begun managing Fitzgibbon Hospital and related healthcare operations.
11. Salem (Ore.) Health Hospitals & Clinics completed its affiliation with Stayton, Ore.-based Santiam Hospital and Clinics.
12. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare sold Dominion Hospital, a behavioral health facility in Falls Church, Va., to Woodmere, N.Y.-based Hill Valley Healthcare for $25 million.
13. Marietta, Ga.-based Wellstar Health System reached an agreement to acquire Toccoa, Ga.-based Stephens County Hospital and its related entities.
14. Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU Health System reached a settlement with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office that places conditions on its acquisition of Greensburg, Pa.-based Independence Health System.
15. Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health acquired Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio, making it the health system’s fifth hospital.
16. Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health finalized its partnership with Robbinsdale, Minn.-based North Memorial Health. The transaction expands Sanford from 58 to 60 hospitals and brings its workforce to about 61,000 employees.
17. Grafton (W.Va.) City Hospital joined Charleston, W.Va.-based Vandalia Health.
