According to the Healthcare Supply Chain Association, an industry trade lobby, hospitals have found that medical device manufacturers sometimes bill them directly to cover the costs associated with the medical device tax.
The medical device tax was included in the 2010 healthcare reform law in order to offset the cost of reform by raising around $30 billion over 10 years. The 2.3 percent excise tax will apply to the sale of medical devices by manufacturers and importers.
