Drs. Vivek Neginhal, David Rovinsky & David Fabi complete world's 1st robotic-assisted bi-cruciate for TKR

Vivek Neginhal, MD, David Rovinsky, MD, and David Fabi, MD performed the world's first robotic-assisted bi-cruciate retaining total knee replacement procedures in the world using Smith & Nephew's Navio robotics-assisted system and the Journey II XR implant.

Here's what you should know:

1. The Navio system helps physicians implant the Journey II XR implant. The implant is marketed as the only one that allows for ACL retention.

2. As of Nov. 13, the Navio system accommodates partial and total knee replacement procedures.

3. Dr. Neginhal practices out of Huntington, W. Va.-based Scott Orthopedic Center; Dr. Rovinsky practices out of Lihue, Hawaii-based Hawaii Pacific Health and Dr. Fabi is out of Scripps Health in San Diego.

Dr. Neginhal said in a release, "I was amazed at how fluid the knee motion was on the first [postoperative] day. My patients have expressed great satisfaction so far. I believe that Navio's accuracy and flexibility of use combined with Journey II XR's retention of the patient’s cruciate ligaments and physiological design will truly increase patients' function and satisfaction."
