Amedica Granted Patent for Artificial Disc Implant

Salt Lake City-based Amedica received a patent for its artificial disc implant that uses its proprietary Silicon Nitride ceramic material.

Amedica used its FDA-approved Silicon Nitride material to develop a spine implant designed to provide increased longevity, better osteointegration and reduced infection rates over traditional metal-on-plastic or metal-on-metal designs, according to the release.

The company currently focuses on spinal and reconstructive medical device manufacturing. Executives are looking to expand its Silicon Nitride offerings beyond spinal fusion to hip and knee replacements, dental implants and suture anchors, according to the news release.
