Woman gives birth to 1st Florida baby with Zika-related microcephaly: 5 insights

A mother from Haiti gave birth to a baby with Zika-associated microcephaly in Florida, according to Local 10 News.

Here are five insights:

1. The Florida Department of Health established the birth is the first Zika-related birth in Florida.

2. The woman was infected with the Zika virus in Haiti, and came to Florida to deliver her baby.

3. Prior to this birth, two other mothers gave birth to babies in Hawaii and New Jersey with Zika-related microcephaly.

4. Babies born with microcephaly present small heads and unfinished brain development.

5. Florida has had 227 confirmed Zika cases.
