Wisconsin investigators studying bacterial bloodstream infection link to 18 deaths: 4 facts

Wisconsin health officials are launching an investigation into a bacterial bloodstream infection, Elizabethkingia, outbreak that may be linked to 18 deaths, according to Fox News.

Here are four facts:

1. Officials have found the infection in 44 people.

2. All of those infected also have serious underlying health conditions.

3. Officials have not determined if the infection, the individuals’ conditions, or both, caused the 18 deaths.

4. Symptoms include fever, shortness of breath, chills or a bacterial skin infection.
