WHO rejects healthcare experts' request to move Olympics due to Zika concern — 4 things to know

The World Health Organization has rejected healthcare experts' open letter requesting the Olympic Games be moved from Rio de Janeiro because the organization states the risk for obtaining the Zika virus is lessened when the Olympics are taking place, according to Politico.

Here are four things to know:

1. WHO stated the Olympics will be taking place during Brazil's winter, lessening the risk of a virus-carrying mosquito's bite.

2. According to the organization, moving the Olympics would not affect the virus' spread.

3. The Zika virus has impacted more than 60 countries and territories since its initial outbreak last year.

4. WHO recommends Olympic attendees avoid areas with no running water and poor sanitation.
