Last Thursday, the FDA announced Olympus issued new guidelines for cleaning the scope after tests shows their prior cleaning instructions did not demonstrate “an adequate safety margin,” reports The Seattle Times. Olympus sent out the new cleaning guidelines for the Q180V scope yesterday.
The duodenoscope has been tied to outbreaks before, and brought the cleaning guidelines for a newer model under scrutiny, as well as an FDA investigation to find if certain crevices of the design can trap bacteria passed to patients. Olympus, along with two other companies, had also been asked by FDA to provide data on the cleanliness of their products.
