Use of vacuum-assisted surgical clippers significantly reduces length of cleanup: 3 notes

Surgical clippers with a vacuum-assisted hair collection device reduced the total time required to clip and clean up residual hair compared to standard surgical clippers, according to a study in the American Journal of Infection Control.

For the study, trained nurses conducted bilateral hair clipping for 18 men using standard surgical clippers or surgical clippers with a vacuum-assisted hair collection device.

Here are three notes:

1. Perioperative hair removal using SSC typically requires a lengthy cleanup process.

2.  SCVAD use significantly decreased both residual hair and microbial contamination within the operative field compared with SSC.

3. SCVAD use eliminated the need to physically remove dispersed hairs.
