Top patient safety opportunities for 2019

Experts from The Joint Commission outlined the top patient safety opportunities for this year in a blog post.

The key details to know:

1. Pearl Darling, executive director for the Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation Program, said wrong-site surgery is one of the biggest areas of improvement for ambulatory care.

2. Ana McKee, MD, The Joint Commission's executive vice president and CMO, said improving safety culture is a key area to focus on in 2019.

3. Joyce Webb, BSN, RN, the department of standards and survey methods director, said diabetes, hypertension and asthma self-management for patients is a top concern for 2019 within her department.
