The Joint Commission and CDC team up on ambulatory infection prevention project

The CDC and The Joint Commission developed new infection control resources for outpatient orthopedic, podiatry and pain management settings.

Here are the key details to know:

1. The Joint Commission and the CDC released two guides based off the CDC's “Guide to Infection Prevention for Outpatient Settings: Minimum Expectations for Safe Care.”

2. The new guides cover infection prevention for outpatient podiatry settings, as well as for orthopedic and pain management clinics. The guides are also available as pocket guides and include a PDF fillable checklist.

3. Topics covered in the guides include education, training, safe injection practices, environmental cleaning and medical device reprocessing.

4. The guides were developed using input from 12 professional associations, interviews conducted with outpatient podiatry, orthopedic and pain management clinics and 11 healthcare systems.
