The impact of data breaches in September

Thirty-six healthcare data breaches were reported in September, affecting nearly two million patient records, according to HIPAA Journal.

Three key details:

1. A total of 1,957,168 records were exposed in September. The top causes of breaches in September were hacking and IT incidents, followed by unauthorized access.

2. The largest breach in September hit North Florida OB-GYN in Jacksonville, where the records of 528,188 individuals were affected.

3. Healthcare data breaches affected organizations in 23 states, including California, Maryland and Washington, which were the most affected with three beaches
