The 3 most challenging ASC infection control areas

Written by Rachel Popa | August 06, 2019 | Print  |

ASC technology developer Surgical Information Systems' chief nursing officer Ann Geier weighed in on the top infection control challenges for ASCs.

Three things to know:

1. Hand hygiene. ASC staff may struggle with hand hygiene due to a variety of factors, including bringing in new staff who may not be familiar with the ASC's protocols and who have different hand hygiene habits.

2. Safe medication practices. ASC staff may cut corners by not wiping the stoppers on multi-dose dials, mishandling medications as a result.

3. Sterilization. ASC staff need to make sure they follow proper sterilization practices step by step and not from memory.
