Thailand’s first case of MERS cleared of virus — 5 facts to know

The 75-year-old patient has been cleared of the deadly MERS virus as of Monday, according to the Huffington Post.

Here are five facts:

1. Thailand health officials stated the patient will remain in quarantine while physicians monitor his heart condition.

2. Thailand’s health ministry continues to monitor 36 individuals who were exposed to the patient.

3. Thailand is the fourth Asian country to register MERS this year.

4. South Korea is battling the largest outbreak outside Saudi Arabia with 31 people succumbing to the disease.

5. MERS was first identified in humans in 2012 and is caused by a corona virus from the same family as the one triggering the 2003 outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
