Sen. Ron Johnson looks to CDC for answers in Wisconsin bloodstream infection outbreak — 4 quick notes

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is seeking answers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding the deadly outbreak of the Elizabethkingia bloodstream infection in Wisconsin, according to WBAY.

Here are four quick notes:

1. As of March 23, 59 cases of the infection have been reported to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. There have been 17 deaths tied to the outbreak.

2. The infection, which has been tracked since Nov. 1, 2015, has been reported in the following counties:

  • Columbia
  • Dane
  • Dodge
  • Fond du Lac
  • Jefferson
  • Milwaukee
  • Ozaukee
  • Racine
  • Sauk
  • Sheboygan
  • Washington
  • Waukesha
  • Winnebago

3. The Department of Health Services said a majority of patients are over the age of 65 and all the patients have a history of at least one serious illness.

4. Health officials have not located the source of the infection.
