Patient sues Northwest Community Hospital Medical Group for infected surgical wound — 5 insights

A Cook County (Ill.) patient is suing a group of physicians at Arlington Heights-based Northwest Community Hospital for her post-operative infection, according to Cook County Record.com.

Here are five insights:

1. The patient claims the physicians mishandled her post-operative care following pancreatic cancer surgery.

2. In April 2014, the patient underwent Whipple surgery. In her suit, the patient claims the physicians did not give her the necessary antibiotics, which increased her infection risk.

3. The patient also claims the physicians did not properly treat her incision.

4. Following her Whipple surgery, the patient underwent additional surgery to treat her post-operative infection, resulting in additional medical costs.

5. The defendant seeks damages for pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement as well as medical and litigation costs.
