Patient Safety Tool: Visit-Specific Satisfaction Instrument

Jaimie Oh -

Rand Health offers a free, downloadable tool designed to assess patient satisfaction after each visit.

The nine-question visit-specific satisfaction instrument was adapted from the American Medical Group Association. Patients may rate their visit with their healthcare provider based on a five-point scale (poor to excellent).

According to Rand Health, the responses from each patient should be converted to a 0 to 100 scale, with 100 corresponding to "excellent" and 0 corresponding to "poor." Responses to the nine VSQ-9 items can then be averaged together to create a VSQ-9 score for each patient.

Download the visit-specific satisfaction instrument (PDF) for use in your facility.
